I've got an 8.25 rear end that is about to go in my Dart but I've misplaced/wornout a couple of the backing plate press-in studs. Looked around for a while and lots of availability for the 8.75 studs, but not even the Jeep guys seem to mention the backing plate studs for the 8.25. Called a dealership and they were even less helpful.

Does anyone have a part number for the 8 (4 per side) 8.25 backing plate studs? Or maybe I need to try my luck at the junkyards or fabricate something myself?

Thanks Charlie, I did see they had the 8.75 studs but wasn't sure if they were the same since on the 8.75 it also retains the bearing. I ended up sending them an email to verify and see if they have anything that will work or help me out in some other way. I'll update the thread once I hear back.

Dr. Diff's recommendation was to either use the 8.75" studs I linked already (these would require a washer to make up the difference from the bearing retainer), or Ford style T-bolts.

Look for square Dakotas in the JY - most of them up till 96 had 8 1/4".
Even though they went to 6-bolt axles in 92 the brakes/housings are the same.
They probably went later than 96 too, but I can't say for sure.

yup. at least to the Dodge Nitro the 8-1/4 is/was still being used? Jeep Liberty. Many Square body Cherokees (which was built til '01) had an 8-1/4 rear end. though 97 up had a different spline count. Both my 96 (square body) and 99 Dakotas have 8-1/4 rear ends. and my 96 (which is a 4wd) has 10" rear brakes. other option was puny 9" brakes.

I figured the later model stuff might use different backing plate studs due to the use of disc brakes and such. Only a few things have changed on the rear ends over the years, I might hop over to the JY this weekend and see if I snag some studs from an XJ with rear drums. If that falls through I think I'll go with the Ford-style T-bolts.
