Woohoo! Back in the slant six saddle, pardners! Getting my D100 going again and also purchased a 64 Valiant wagon (which should be at my place in a couple of weeks--lovely desert CA car). The engine ran before I had to take it apart to replace the head gasket. The only wire that is hot on my HEI set-up is the top wire on the control module that goes to the coil. Everything is connected according to the illustrations here on the Slant 6 Forum. During cranking there isn't any electricity coming from the other side of the module--the one that connects to the distributor. During cranking there isn't any electricity going to the coil besides the already mentioned wire from the control module. What should be happening and how do I test the control module? Glad to be back in SlantWorld. Joe |

My limited experience troubleshooting this setup is to measure the resistance of the Distributor pickup. I don't recall exact readings but I think it should be in the 400-900 ohm reading-just make sure it doesn't read as an open. If that looks good, and you have power, then I usually replace the module. They are tough to diagnose without something like an Oscilloscope or other special equipment. Coils can go bad, but it's more likely that the module will die before the coil. jus sayin.... |
