I have been looking through the SCCA Autocross rules to see where the 68 Barracuda would fit. I see that Greg O is running in the CAM group and I agree that looks to be the best fit for our modified A body cars. Most of the SCCA Autocross classes are very restricted. Most allow no more than a .020 overbore on a stock engine and chassis mods are very limited. The CAM group is unlimited for engine and chassis mods,,, Below is a summary of the Classic American Muscle rules https://www.scca.com/pages/cam-challenge The article below details the rules changes for the CAM group for 2020 and also talks to the vision that the SCCA has for the CAM group. There is also a link to the complete SCCA CAM rule listing. Towards the bottom of the page is an interesting commentary on why the CAM group is not eligible for National Championships. https://www.autoxandtrack.com/state-of-scca-cam/ |

Doing some internet searching to get additional information on the local Autocross scene. The Indianapolis Region of the SCCA is the organizer. In 2020 they held six events at the Grissom Aeroplex. A former USAF base that is currently a regional airport. The Grissom Aeroplex is about an hour north of Indy. It is just up the road from Bunker Hill Drag Strip where I did most of my drag race Test and Tune runs. They also held one Autocross event at the Indy Fairgrounds, that is minutes from my house. A couple of the Indy Region races at Grissom were titled as DragCross events. It is an autocross run coupled with a drag race start. Two cars line up side by side, start with a 'Christmas Tree' race down a straight then each goes into their own cone lined road course. Sounds like fun,, Details are at the link below. http://www.indyscca.org/dragcross.html |

None of the places I have been to yet have enough area for dragcross. It's flatter where you are. Neat stuff. SCCA I think has done well during the 2020 pandemic. no major businesses.. mostly just volunteers organizing the events and limited to usually around here 90 or even 50 or less cars makes it more exclusive. And unlike drag racing there is no track prep after you got'st the cones setup. |
