I've borrowed Joshie225's old photo of his Cliffords on a 225 to ask a tired (but maybe still valid) question: Can Clifford 60-66 A-body headers fit on a 170? The clearance issues I'm aware of have involved the rear-most tube hitting the starter. This photo suggests that the rear-most tube on these is more than 1" away from the mini-starter (arrow).

I know availability can be an issue with some Clifford parts, but I've got my eye on a used set. Thoughts?

Good point. That bit is especially tricky, because this 170 will be going into a roadster (modified '27 Ford or something like that), and I don't know how the steering will sit in there. It would still be helpful to know if clearance to the mini-starter is a pre-emptive dealbreaker, though.

Has anyone gotten around to test-fitting dual DDs on a 170, by the way? (For some reason, not even Aussiespeed had tried it, last I checked.)

The Clifford shorty header, for the high starter application, will fit all three slant six engines. It is the steering box that gets in the way on the 60-66 A bodies with the 170 engine, or the 225 with power steering. If you cut a fishmouth notch in the front three tubes, and bend the tubes to raise the collector they can be made to fit the 170 with manual steering, or the 225 with power steering. That is what I do.

Perfect! Thank you.
