Post subject:  Some Super Six Linkage Questions
Hello everybody,

I have two quick questions about the transmission kickdown linkage when switching from a 1BBL to a 2BBL setup:

1. Is the long rod that runs from the transmission to the linkage up by the carburetor different from the 1BBL to the 2BBL? Or is the rod the same? If it makes a difference, it's in a '72 Valiant.

2. I have everything for the 2BBL swap but the long flat piece of the kickdown linkage with the curved slot at the end (see pic. Also: not my pic, snagged it off google images).

What is this curved slot for? Near as I can tell, the spring should always keep the long kickdown rod held against the bottom end of that slot (spring in pic is too long), and if that's the case, I can just make that piece from scratch without that slot... but if it isn't needed, it probably wouldn't be there.

The kick down rod is different.

You will see that the linkage at the transmission is a different length as well.

The slot is a safety device. If the trans linkage should jam in anything more then closed throttle, it could hold the carb open. The slot allows the carb to close, no matter how far the trans linkage is pushed.

Light spring should keep that Rod up against the throttle pin all the time normal operation, all Throttle positions.

And this picture car was at Full Throttle, kickdown linkage has seized or failed somehow either internally or externally. Will not return to curb idle. Throttle return spring has overpowered the kickdown spring and safely returned carburetor to Curb idle . Fail safe.
