#7918. old Fel pro head gasket. Silver, one smooth side, one rough side. No "printo seal" Thoughts? OK for slightly raised compression? were these decent back in their day? Compressed thickness? Last decently long, in non boosted/non nitrous daily driven application? I've used some printo seal head gaskets on other applications, they seem rock hard and don't really compress. at least on 318/360 Magnum applications. (my most recent engine dismantling projects)
Looked on Google, never really found much.
same thing with Mc Cord "rest of engine" gaskets. Any good? What happened to them? I remember them being fairly available at one time. 25 years ago when I worked at auto Zone "was a '2nd job')" I remember we had them and Fel Pro. The Mc Cords were usually cheaper.
I just got a pile of misc gaskets as part of a parts buy from FABO. the gaskets got here, still waiting on rest of parts..... the guy shipped in 2 separate packages.

If the head gasket isn't brittle I would smear it with some Hylomar and put it in. Same with the other gaskets IF they are still flexible.

I bought some NOS Mopar gaskets sets at a swap meet years ago, thinking I had something. When I opened the boxes I found that basically I had paid too much for some steel shim head gaskets. Most everything else was dry rotted.

Last McCord set I had was for a pig block, about 25 years or so ago.

I just got 8 of these old 7918 head gaskets and the mccord set is just an oil pan set.
Have a 2nd box coming with a flow kooler water pump an oil pump rebuild kit and I dunno yet what else.

I thought Id put this up but I guess I hit "new topic" instead by mistake, went to post and came up in red "must put a title in".... took a minute to figure out why it wouldnt simply post.

never used Hylomar before.
I have used spray copper coat though.
If I didn't know better, these head gaskets (except for 1, which is an NOS steel shim) were just a sheet of asbestos with a fire ring..... they are a gray/silver color and definitely stamped "Fel Pro" and "7918" in the other bottom corner.

so who knows what about these old school Fel Pro head gaskets? Decent? Would "free" have been too much? (I didn't get them for that) Any reason to be "afraid" to use them?
I got them in a pkg deal from a guy on FABO with one of those fancy "FlowKooler" water pumps and a new but very old stock Melling oil pump rebuild kit and a Robertshaw hi flow T stat, which I later found out won't fit the slant. (I think I can use it on something else I have, though)
I know I should have checked, I could have had one of those same water pumps direct from the company for $99, this guy claimed he sold it to me "for what he paid for it"......
I'm pretty sure I overpaid for all of what I got.....I was kind of thinking of getting a Flow Kooler pump anyway but hadn't checked into price yet when this one popped up.... but I've been watching someone try and sell a couple of the same oil pump kits on feeBay for what seems "high" to me....
but nevermind all that, just interested in info on the old stock gaskets, for the purpose of this thread........
