Are there any bolts the protrude into the water jacket on a slant that would require a sealant? If so which bolts do and better still, what sealant does everyone prefer?

Manifold studs go into the water jacket and a water pump bolt or two. I like the Permatex High Performance thread sealant, but it's not cheap. They have a range to chose from: https://www.permatex.com/product-catego ... automobile

Also one of the alternator mount bolts goes into the lifter gallery, and can leak oil. If I remember correctly it is the rear one on the block.

Hylomar Blue - is my go-to thread (and more)sealant that withstands gas, oil, glycol, most auto solvents, and holds up to 600F. It also holds up to vibration and is non-setting, which makes part removal easier. This was designed for Rolls-Royce jet engines and remains widely used in the aviation industry. Available in tube and spray. Awesome stuff, but it is not cheap, but it goes on very thin and lasts a good long time though...

Permatex Copper Anti- Seize - is the thread sealant I use on most all other threads. Other than its anti-seize properties, it has great heat dissipation that works super for spark plug threads, but be careful to keep it only on the threads and not on the spark plug body because I also use to improve electrical connections - it's conductive.

Related - Permatex Copper Spray - while not a thread sealant, is what I use on dry gaskets, like carburetors.

Works for me... Your results may vary.

I agree with Joshua, the permatex sealant is fantastic, works with oil, gas and water. You have to let it dry overnight, but the seal is flexible and never leaks. I used it on my Webers fuel lines, water and oil jacket on the manifold studs, alternator bracket bolt that goes into the oil jacket, water pump bolts as well - will not leak. Just make sure the male and female threads are clean and dry when applying.
