Post subject: | Help me with correct colors |
I’m looking for a little help with paints. I have found color codes on the Internet for the paints used for (in this case) a 62 valiant. How well does this color system work? I mean, the exterior color PP-1 (factory code number C-7090-ES) Valiant Red (called Cherry Red on the Internet) translates into PPG color code 71203. If I ask for this PPG 71203 color, will it be (reasonably) correct? Also, the interior colors have different letters after the number, for example C-7090-B (Majestic Red, gloss finish) or C-7090-SB (Majestic Red, semi-gloss finish). Is there a color (sub)code for these? Chrysler has used different color codes for all three. The difference between gloss finish and semigloss finish I believe I understand, but how does the exterior color differ from the gloss finish interior color and how do I get the correct color? The Mopar numbers are taken from the Valiant service manual. The color translation codes are taken from https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcoded ... nt&rows=50 In case I’m asking something too simple, I have a valid excuse this time, I’m colorblind. ![]() |

In case somebody else stumbles on this question in the future, I received confirmation that the color 71203 will be the correct exterior color and I was referred to http://www.autocolorlibrary.com for information about difference with interior colors. |

Nice, thank you for these links! Did you find something similar for the interior colors / variations? That would be interesting for me too... Greetings from Switzerland |

Greetings to Switzerland! I'm glad if I could help at least a little bit for a change. I sent http://www.autocolorlibrary.com an email asking about the different interior color versions, but I haven't heard back yet. I'll let you know if and when I do.

Okay, I received this answer from https://www.autocolorlibrary.com/ (check my first message in this thread for the colors I was asking for): "Thanks for the inquiry. The same exterior color was also used on the interior as well so they would be the same, back in the day it would have been lacquer used on the interior and you just don’t polish the interior. Then there is also semi-gloss red which you stated and is the same color just with some flattening agent used and its PPG number is 71154." |
