I am helping a friend who got a '66 Barracuda in the shop with 4 piston disc brakes. It has what looks like a stock shoe-type MC and some kind of proportioning valve mounted on the firewall. I've got a few questions. What was the first year that 4 piston brakes were available? What master cyl. was used with these? If it should have a dual master then I would expect that the first year available was '67. I can't imagine that this setup worked right but the owner said it stopped fine. It came in because after sitting for several weeks (not sure how many) the MC was empty, and we can't see any signs of leaking at the master or cylinders. We believe that the system should be redone with a different MC. I have a box of MCs but don't know what the old disc type looks like. I have '73 single-piston discs on my '63 Dart. Thanks |

Pretty sure 66 was the first year for the disk brakes on a Barracuda. KH made the system and it was close to the Mustang system. The one I parted years ago had the proportioning valve, but I don't remember the MC. I parted a 66 Barracuda. |

1966 was the first year and it came with a master cylinder that looked just like the single-pot drum master except that the reservoir was taller for more fluid capacity. In fact it looked like a sheet metal add-on to the cast iron master cylinder. If you download the 1966 Dart FSM and go to page 129 you'll see it. http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=109 |

I don't see it on page 129. It would be 5-something, I think 5-44.
