Hello All.
Newbie here. My first car was a 69 Valiant that I bought for $300 in high school...40 years ago.
Just bought a 64 Valiant Convertible with a 65 170 in her. Doesn't start and there is much work to be done.
During diagnostics I found #6 intake had a bent rod. So I started disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, replacing parts, etc.
Here's my first question of I'm sure many more to come.
The "FLAT" on my rocker shaft is nonexistent. Both ends look exactly the same. There is a "dot" of orange paint on one end. Not sure if that means that end is the "FLAT". Your thoughts?
Also, do the tiny holes on the rocker shaft face up or down? Towards the spark plugs or the manifolds?
That is all for now. Hoping to have her running by next week.

Your answer is HERE

The oil passage holes in the rocker arm shaft face towards the manifolds.

Thanks for the reply.
Holes towards the manifolds...got it.
How about the orange "dot"? Is that my "FLAT"?

At this late date, who knows? Who knows what has been done to that engine in the last 50 plus years. All that matters is that the oil holes point in the right direction.
