Hi guys. My vehicle is a 1965 Dodge A100 w/ a slant that has been converted to super six intake and exhaust. My concern is heat soak, especially when I'm not moving. I was buying some parts online and noticed a heat shield above the intake manifold and below the carb so I got him to add it to my order. Now I have it and it is definitely non metallic, I can't help wondering if it is made of asbestos? It has to be modified from a one hole to two, and two bolt holes to four. Asbestos is great (maybe) as long as it is left alone. So my question is...has any of you encountered or heard of this type of heat shield??? Thank you!! Gary

The factory did use asbestos material heat shields in the very late 70s and 80s. But most of those have dissolved by now. A while back a board member made a run of heat shields using phenolic resin and tracing the original asbestos heart shields. I got one for a BBD. You can buy phenolic material as well as phenolic spacers and make your own.

For example, phenolic spacers for a BBD:

1/2 inch thick
