Is there any difference between Manifolds if you plan on running Dual Dutra Duals on the Front and rear?

Are the castings the same?
- I want to say they are but I want to be sure as I have one and need to locate another one to make a set.

No I don't think they're the same
The dumps are different between them

They may be different now since AussieSpeed assumed the production of those parts, as I had read that they made a change to improve the clearance of the flange to the starter. I have a set on the 83 D150 that I bought new back in 2010, and then anyway the front and rear were the same part. Which probably explains why the flange is close even with a mini starter.

Okay, That's What I thought.

I don't have any aussiespeed parts Just Doug's Castings.

maybe its the Aussie one I'm thinking of then? Hyper-Pak had a set of 1 of each for sale here recently with pix. the ad is still there, even though the pieces are marked sold.
It hasn't "fallen off" the bottom of the list yet/ Oat least it was still there yesterday)

Yes they are different. ( This is a new pair bought in 2021). Rear one aims slightly forward. I am putting them on Ryan's 65 Valiant right now. They do not easily fit he 170 engine. Well that is not true. They fit on the engine fine, but the starter is the problem. The 1" shorter stroke places the manifold down where the mini starter hits, and the planetary (super mini) hits the solenoid. Ryan ordered a Robbmc starter that can have the solenoid rotate to any position. Hopefully it can rotate the solenoid out of the way. I'll let you know if it works.

Don brings up a good point, the most front and rear attachment points for the slant exhaust is a stud, so perhaps for even on the older Dutra's the manifolds are unique. Maybe just the machining.

I have not had the hood up on the 83D150 in months,( it sits out the winter ) I'll go in the garage tomorrow and take a look.

Good Stuff Rick, Thanks!

My Dutra rear manifold was drilled for the stud at the rear of the manifold. And the outlet turned slightly forward. I don't know why you could not drill a hole to use it forward if needed.

Sorry, slightly aft.

When I bought a pair from Doug in about 2000 for the turbo Dart, they were identical except for the hole drilled for the ends of head. He had several castings with different outlet pads, so if you mix and match they would be different front and rear. They were intended to be same front and rear for each casting he made.

as mentioned photos of a rear Dutra Exhaust,, these are vintage 2010 parts, way before AussieSpeed took over production.

the front and rear castings are the exact same parts, machining changes to a drilled pilot hole and spot face change allow the casting to fit in either position. The issue is the rear manifold flange is tilted to allow minimal clearance to the starter. That situation is workable with a mini starter on a 225.

I believe that AussieSpeed modified the pattern to produce a rear manifold that improves the clearance to the mini starter.

In any combination of these manifolds, is it possible to keep an O.E. style starter?

Dyno Dave, I think the problems arise using them on a 170, low deck slant six.
On a 225 I think there is enough clearance.
