How does a heater valve on the 60-62 cars work? My car has plumbing store parts on it from the previous owners. The whole HVAC system needs restored but for now i will just settle on getting the heater valve worked out. Is there a retrofit or replacement? Greg |

Suggest you use a modern heater valve (outside the heater box). Too much hassle with the original type. If you still want to use the original type heater valve, source one from a 80's or 90's Volvo, they are the same but will need a little plumbing - easy. |

Thank you, I will study up on those. any part #'s to offer? I am not opposed to going to an external valve. My car currently has some hacked plumbing store valve and a external heater control valve that is operated by a choke pull from the corner parts store or an old lawnmower. That 'Schtuff ain't cool. as an update to this. I have not yet dug into my car's Heating system and Vacuum Mode Door actuator systems yet. However I did find a nice original parts car and upon removing the heater box from the firewall I was able to get myself an original Valiant / Lancer Style Ranco H16 Heater Valve assembly. I got it all cleaned up and ready to swap into my car. I am not entirely sure about the 60 year old rubber seal in there, so I can have it Rebuilt or DMT seems to have valvesjust the seal kit for these Ranco H 16 FYI.. Greg |

There are two rubber seals in the H16 valve; the flat one with the nubbin in the middle that goes between the two halves of the valve, and the curved conical one that goes on the valve stem. Looks like DMT offers both. Note that "H16" is not specific to the '60-'62 Valiant-Lancer valve; there were numerous differently-configured "H16" valves for different makes and models over the years. |

A good idea to use a heater tap "outside" the hot box. Get a modern one, preferably the plastic body type, the metal one's rust. If you want to stay original Volvo cars - around 2010 used one similar to the Mopar type. You will find one easily at a wreckers or buy a new one. Cheers |
