I came up with a slant six irrigation engine set up that was built by Chrysler! From radiator guard to PTO bell housing complete . It is even set up for gauges and battery tray however the gauges that were in it had been destroyed by weather long before I got it. The air cleaner housing had even rusted through! I mounted heavy duty casters under it and will be able to test run engines for extended runs on it. I'm trying to come up with a way to apply load to an engine running on it for break in and tuning. any suggestions? |

Use an old transmission with a short driveshaft.. connect the driveshaft to a disc brake. Connect that disc brake to a master cylinder with a hand/ lever control.. modulate the disc brake pressure as needed for your break in. Greg |

Wouldn't that overheat the brake quickly and destroy the brake set up?
Connect that disc brake to a master cylinder with a hand/ lever control.. modulate the disc brake pressure as needed for your break in. Greg |

How long the brake survives really depends upon how much power you put into it. With a big rotor and high temperature pads you can dissipate quite a bit of energy. In the 1992-3 time frame the transmission program at my community college had a disc brake on the transmission output shaft and a master cylinder with a screw and hand-wheel to set the load. |

Sounds intriguing, I could scrounge up parts to build one almost for free! |

You see those all over the place in the Southwest. Once I became a Slant 6 fan I would always check to see what the pump was. I found a couple Slanted ones over the years. Cool stuff. |

Mine does not have the legs or the driveshaft and pump but otherwise looks just like that. It sat outside in the weather neglected long enough that the plug wires were falling apart, the hoses were crisp and the oil bath air cleaner had rust holes all the way through. I don't figure that much of that engine will be usable, but the radiator still had green antifreeze in the bottom below the break in the hose and the rest of the setup seems ok, the clutch still releases!. I got it cheep, the farmer wanted it out from beside his driveway where it had been moldering for a long time. I think I paid about $50 for it and he helped to load it.

Good Deal. We don't really need Irrigation pumps much here. It rains. I am sure there are some on the farms, but not like in the south or west of The country. Greg |
