I did an HEI conversion using the dizzy from a ‘79 Aspen SuperSix. Car seems to run noticeably better, but I think I found something odd. There was not appears to be 6-7 degrees of mechanical advance. Is that to be expected? I disassembled and cleaned the spark spinner before it was installed and I didn’t see anything that looked like a binding spot. Possible that I could be on the throttle and the dang thing finds another 10-13 degrees all of a sudden? Base timing is at 16 degrees, total advance takes me to 23-24. If the distributor DOES pick up 10 degrees, am I still in the safe zone? |

I agree the long-loop heavy spring has to go. My distributor recurve post in the faqs will help. I still have a few spring kits left. |
