I have early 170 engine and late model 904. There is a fitment problem with converter hub. As the converter is custom piece (small diameter, high stall) I like to keep as is. So I have onlys choice to ask machinist to made my small register 170 crank to perfect fit. I have found a machinist to do it. I am pretty sure that has done before several times. I have calculated there is enough material to do it. Just to the inner hole to 1.81” and add an outer ring for flex plate centering (1.96”/2.16”) Please advice me to topics where this is discussed before. (I am overseas. Slant parts are not laying all around. Was a job to catch 170 bottom end which is not at biggest overbore and ”end”. Now I have a good project engine). |

Machine the counter-bore out to the larger size and use the early flex plate (small bore size) and everything works fine. DD ![]() |

One more question. What is the needed size for re-machined counterbore? Is it 1.81" (46,0mm) or 1.815" (46,1mm)?

1 13/16 inches = 1.8125 Best to measure the hub on the torque converter and add .002 for clearance. DD |
