Post subject:  Aspen / Volare Discs to A body???

Sorry, I'm too lazy to dig around to try and figure this out myself.
Can I swap Volare (77?) or E body discs to my 68 dart? The Dart has manual drums right now, if I do switch to discs do they have to be power?
What non A body rears (LBP) will work under my Dart without major mods Maybe the Volare? I've also got an aspen, a Mirada, some E and C bodies and a few pick ups out back?
One more thing... Does anyone know what the lug spacing is on the new ram wheels? I think my Dart would look wild slammed with those 20" wheels and skinny little rubber. If it's 5 on 4.5 then it's a slam dunk (depending on offset). Otherwise maybe some wheel adapters? Is anyone else running large rims (18,19,20s) and low profile tires? If so post some photos so I can see if it looks as cool as I think it will.

Thanks
Welly225

go to www.moparaction.com and read the tech archive. that will answer most of your brake questions.

The f body brakes will work regardless of the accepted myth that they will not. There was a discussion about this on ss.com last month or so. Check out the tech articles at this link. http://www.bigblockdart.com/spindles/spindles.htm

As far as rear axles the f,j,m bodies are wider. Not sure exactly how much. I have been toying with the idea of an 8.8 from a mustang. It appears that once all the crap is cut off the housing it would work if the spriongs were moved inboard. As a bonus you get rear disc brakes. I think the new rams are 6 bolt like the dakotas.

It isn't a myth that the F body brakes won't work, it is just a fact that the FMJ knuckle is taller than the A body knuckle. The taller knuckle alters the front suspension geometry which is something that is beyond the grasp of the average "bolt on Joe". That is why most people give the more prudent advice of using the late model A body knuckles.

I never tell anyone about the FMJ swap unless I know what they are going to use the car for and whether or not they are a sophisticated enough user to deal with altered suspension geometry. Many others on the Internet are not so careful with their advice.

Sorry andyf But I have to respectfully disagree. This in the realm of a simple bolt on. Especialy for the average joe. Once it is all bolted on and aligned most people wont notice a difference. It does alter steering geometry some but in ways that most people would never know or care about. If you are maybe a little more advanced than the average guy then I guess there is no need for either a or f body parts. There are some great aftermarket pieces available from willwood and others that are a cut above factory.
Look all Im saying is it will work the stuff is readily available and it will be a huge improvement over drum brakes. The way i look at it is that is why we are gearheads. We enjoy altering something that was never intended to be. Any advice I give on this or any other forum is purely from a desire to help people with like interests. It wasnt that many years ago I was the 13 year old kid dragging his first duster home from the junkyard and there wer no internet forums where I could get advice specifically for my car. I had to hear many times that somethng will never work from people who never tried. So I figure Ill help when I can and shut up when I cant. :)

Post subject:  Okay, how about Aspen Upper Control Arms?

Hi all,
