Post subject:  MoKan Race in April

Hey all! I was hoping to get an idea of how many might be wanting to go to the MoKan race. It's the only one within range of my Dad's house, and I thought I'd get him out to see some slant racers and be able to chat. I'd told him I'd happily trailer his car over there, and either show it or race it his preference, which he didn't care as he can't drive it and said I could do what I wanted.

He does have Parkinson's, so I'd have his mobility chair along because he can't walk distances anymore. Can anyone advise on this event and give me some idea of what the day might be like for us? Do the slant cars all try to pit together if we race, or park together if we show?

Dad hasn't been out and around something he enjoys for several years now due to his health and I'm hoping to get him out and enjoying what life has to offer a bit again this year.

That's awesome you are going to get him out and around stuff he enjoys!

I've only been to the MoKan race once or twice, but it is a very laid back place and you should easily be able to park/pit next to other Slant 6 folks.

It isn't always a big turnout given the location, but that has its own blessings.

Hey, I don't want to promise but I am going to try and go to MoKan to race.
Is your Dads car down here in Texas or close to MoKan?
I am down here in Midlothian.

It would be great if you could make it to the MoPar's Invade Mo-Kan show. 35 or more show cars and 50 to 75 race cars is average attendance. All the show is on flat ground so it's easy to get around. The slant 6 cars are usually pretty close to the show car area which is due south of the starting line, left side and slant cars on the right side of the push road. I haven't talked to Steve Nitti to see if he is attending, but his car is something to see. Steve's 10 second Duster is fantastic. The Kendall dragsters from Tulsa are always fast also. If everything works out "The Colt" might show up which would be great.

His car is up in Kansas, I'll head out of NTx on Friday morning and go to his place, and drive over to MO on either Friday night or Saturday morning.

Thanks for the tips and responses! Hopefully I'll see some folks there and at least get Dad out of the house for awhile

Turned out to be a perfect day of racing. Records were set and the quality of the three competitor’s cars were top notch. Mo-Kan did a great job as always.

As Mark said some records were set at MoKan on April 1-2. Denny Baierl driving Steven Nitti's 71 Duster set new 1/4 mile records in both the C and D unlimited classes. C/U was 10.8498 ET and 125.84 MPH, D/U was 10.9137 ET and 124.04 MPH. The car weighed 3,074# for C and 3,253# for D. Jeff Kendall might have also set some records but I haven't heard from him yet. I forwarded these to Ryan for posting.

I am updating my points spreadsheet and David Willis has not raced with us before... :? I guess that makes him a Rookie too...

Gary Willis has raced with us...

Two different people, right...?
