Hi everyone. I've got a 1963 plymouth valiant and I just rebuilt the head.
but i noticed in mt fuel filter i keep finding little strands of black plastic. It looks exactly like the same stuff found in the filler cap that is used as a filter. I am wondering if anyone has dropped their tank and seen what kind of intank filter it has. my guess is that there is a deteriorating filter in the tank but i would hate to drop the tank and not know what is going to be in there.

I know my tank was absolutely filthy, and it is probably the general consensus that you need to drop the tank if your concerned. My filter was completely deteriorated and there were pints of rusty material in the tank. I dropped the tank, emptied the old fuel and rust, pressure washed it out with soap, and then repaired a few pinholes and coated it with some stuff from JC Whitney. It was a lot of work, and if I had to do it again I would shell out $200 for a new tank. Good luck.

I just sent my tank to a local radiator shop to have it fixed up. They dipped it to remove all the rust, lined the inside, and cleaned up and painted the exterior, for $175. It looks brand new and should last forever now.

Any idea what exactly they lined it with? I've heard that some linings will eventually get eaten away by the gasoline over time. Maybe it was the DIY retail stuff...
