Post subject:  How to get at middle of ports??

Hey,

well i'm finally moving into porting from bowlwork.. my only quesion is HOW to get at the center of the ports right where the turn is ?? i'm using an airgrinder and some small grinding stones, i've tried longer ones and i've tried shorter ones and there is just pain and simple no way i can get in there  i'm scared of screwing up the seats even though they're only "roughed" in... any tips on this will be greatly appriciated saying i have to get this baby back to the shop to get finished up.... i really need to find a way instead of going at it with sandpaper (hand sanding..)

thanks for the help
Justin

I have some long bit extensions that I use on my die grinder. I don't remember where I got them, though. I'll try to track down a source and let you know, if no one else knows right off.

Hmm, dremels have this flexible snake like deal you can attach to the tool and attach the bit to the end of the snake.

I've used a dremel for fine finish work, but they're slow goin' takin' out meat...

Dremels are the wrong tool to use for cast iron porting.. They're decent on aluminum, though. A preferable tool for iron would be a high-speed electric die grinder with a speed adjustment.

My air powered die grinder with 4 inch lon shank carbige cutters is the tool of choice for porting.
I think I will get a 6 inch long shank oval cutter the next time I purchase one, that will give me a little extra room when working deep inside the ports.

The cutters in the can, at the bottom of this shot have 4-inch long shanks:
