Stock 1976 motor, somewhat tired. In a full size truck with a 727 trans and 3.9 rear gears.

Never run stock Holley 2300 economaster carb with reverse idle mixture circuit.

Pump cam I believe is red.
Power valve is 10.5
Stock jets read 52 and then an upside down 2. I believe these are 52 1/2 jets.

52 jets seem awfully lean for this carb. I recall most people run roughly mid-60s sized jets in the 2300.

I am going to try running this carb stock.

Anybody have advice about what jets to start with? Or should I just go with the stock 522 jets and see what happens? I will have a wideband O2 sensor installed and functioning before the carb goes on, but I am trying to ballpark it as close as I can pre-installation.

My guess is the metering block is different than a standard 2300, for which those jets should not even be close to working. A standard 2300 series 500 carb should run maybe 62 jets at the minimum and more like 64-68, assuming you are anywhere near sea level.

I would try it as is and change jets from there. It is obviously set up differently inside than a std 2300 Holley 500 2bbl.

If you do not have a wideband O2 sensor, you will save yourself a ton of time and perhaps a fair bit of money by installing one now. The AEM gauges are under $200 and have everything you need and are highly durable and reliable.

Thanks, Lou. I do have a wideband sensor. I just need to weld the sensor bung to the exaust pipe and drill the hiole for the sensor.

I will run it as-is first and see how it does.

IIRC, the extra number on the jet means it's a precision jet. They are actually flowed when made.

I could be totally full of poo too.
