Your new timing set looks awfully tight to me, the new one I put on isn't as floppy as your old timing set but if I had to guess I'd say there is an inch of play (wiggling up and down, none back and forth), maybe a bit less.

Hrm...
Well. It was about a perfect fit. Tightening the cam sprocket brought it right to tight but no binding. I'm sure now that I've put about 2K on it that it's broken in a bit and can flop just a tad if I were to open it back up and do so. :dunno:

Yep the old one looked pretty typical of an 'old timer' ready to put you off about 10 degrees...the new one looks a bit tight, but it should wear in pretty quickly.

Depending on the year of vehicle, the new generic distributor might have a slightly better curve than your old one.
