Search this page for idle enrichment and read about the missing diaphragm, cover, vacuum hose, and timer/control mechanism. What year and model of vehicle are you trying to make this carb work on? |

Good read. Now I understand what’s going on. It’s going on a 73 Duster with 2bbl conversion…so it doesn’t have any of the other parts to make that system work. Additionally, I have the EGR blocked off. Back to the other carb.. As always—thanks Dan! |

If that carb otherwise works well, you could drive ball plugs into the no-longer-used passage(s), and just dial in the choke to handle the whole cold-engine enrichment job. Use a № 1232 Electric choke kit, which works better than the OE Super Six choke and is adjustable. |

I've had a few BBDs that had that, just left the diaphragm and cover with the vacuum hose nipple in place with nothing hooked to it, never seemed to be an issue when used that way |

I would try that but I have none of the OE parts that would have been included in that setup. Dan-I think I’m going to order that choke for this setup regardless of what carb I end up using. I’ve been okay with the old style on the 1bbl 1920—however I’ve found the BBD to be much more finicky with the factory choke setup. Thanks for all the good info. |

The BBD takes a different bellcrank on the end of the choke shaft for a /6 than for a V8. Easy to change, found mine in feebay, factory Carter part, I needed 2, I got a 3rd for my spare carb. I think they were like $10. That diaphragm for the idle enrichment has come with every BBD overhaul kit I have bought. Which has been many over the years. Just need the nipple with the 3 hole flange to screw on behind that diaphragm. |
