| Post subject: | Bad car battery? |
Sometimes when I try to start my Valiant my starter motor does not operate - I hear a machine gun type noise and then I have no power. If I try to start the car a few minutes later it starts ok. I was told the noise I hear is probably the solenoid and that I have a battery problem. I have a new battery charger - PROJECTOR 6 STAGE/8 AMP. After it has been connected to the battery for a few hours I get a reading F4 - Bad battery, but testing each cell with my hydrometer I get a gook reading - about 1300 for each cell. Any ideas as to my problem? Thanks |

How old is the car battery? Is the battery still covered by a warranty? Have you checked the battery cable connections from the battery to the starter and from the starter relay to the bulkhead connector? For loose and or corroded conditions. Have you checked the battery negative ground? Have you checked voltage at the battery? With the battery just setting and while cranking? How old is the starter? How old is the starter relay? Do you know how to check for voltage drops? Answering those will get you well on the way to resolving the problem. |
