Post subject: | Truck Oil Pan Vs. Car Oil Pans |
Hey guys! The oil pan on my '68 A100 van is pretty roached and I'm looking to replace it with a good one. The A100 van chassis is set up quite a bit like the 1960's D100 pickup trucks...straight axle up front, etc, but it came with the "987" stamped mid sump style oil pan like all of the cars. I've seen all the variations of the slant oil pans and it looks like they've all got the sump pretty close to the middle of the oil pan...except for the truck version. It looks like I'd have no problem fitting a truck oil pan in my van...would that be any better with the sump in the rear than the original "987" mid sump version that originally came on it? Figured I'd ask since I need a new oil pan anyways. Coincidentally...if anyone has a really nice used oil pan they'd like to sell hit me up! THANKS! |

I don't have a truck pan But make sure you get the correct corresponding pickup with the pan you want. I might be interested in the old pan off your van if you have no use for it.. Send me a message. Thanks, Greg |

You will need the oil dipstick and tube as well. |

If there is clearance for the pan (up to you to measure or find info), then I would favor the truck pan with rear sump. This is a little deeper than the car pan and allows you to control the oil in the sump more easily (resist g forces) without having to baffle to the rear. Any pan will work, however, if you are not doing very hard cornering, etc, like in AutoX or road racing. If you find a truck pan (or any pan), make sure to get the matching pickup at the same time if you can. Each pan will have a specific pickup, although a few car pans had crossovers that used the same pickup (67-80s in A-bodies and F,J,M bodies, for example). Best, Lou |
