I know many drag racers have been successful in the old days with individual runner carburetion..... The benefits of I.R. carburetion seem great... more response, more low to mid range torque, better vacuum booster signal to carb. I would like to attempt an I.R. carb set-up on the slant six, i don't know if anyone else has done it, I know some use three dueces...but with an open plenum. I'd like to use 3 side draft webers...42's maybe? I would run this set-up with a mild cam, oversized valves, mild head porting, 8.5-9.5 comp ratio and headers...as well as an electronic ignition.... my basic question is, would the extra power be worth taking the time to fabricate the intake manifold??? lookin for some pro's responses on this one.. I'm not building this thing tomorrow or anything, so i have plenty of time to "optimize" my plan for max power/durability. -Don |

Clifford still shows their Weber DCOE manifold in their catalog. That would be the easiest way to run the set-up you are descibing. Fastest that Dad ever turned with a /6 in the 70's was with the above Weber set-up. Running 2600# 12.50's in the 1/4. Tom |

well, I plan on making my own prototype manifold from scratch. i'll probably fabricate my own flanges where it bolts to the head using 3/8" steel and same for the carb flanges. I need to pick up another slant motor though so i can build it up over the winter...saw one hiding in the back of a box truck at a scrap yard a month ago....if it's still there, it's mine. if i do follow through with this, i'll have to find a guy with an engine dyno that's willing to aid my research. if anybody has any suggestions, feel free to drop me a line! -Don |
