Hello, Ive been restoring my engine and its components. Its a 71 225 in a duster. Im trying to keep all the colors the same as when they were when new. Ive searched here and found most of the colors for the motor, brackets, pans and pulleys.

But there are a few select pieces I cannot find color information on, including the oil pump, the metal shield on the side of the oil pump, the oil pump bolts, motor mounts, motor to trans brace (a904), ignition coil bracket, alternator bolts, fan bolts.

Any info is appreciated!

See here

the oil pump bolts
Painted with the oil pump and distributor splash shield, all while attached to the engine. Therefore: blue.

Black

Black

Plated, not painted

Lower alternator bracket is blue, and so are its bolts holding it onto the engine. Upper (slider) bracket is black, and its bolts are plated, not painted.

Ahh, Ive read that thread several times but didn't realize that piece was called a distributor splash shield. Sprayed after assembly..... and pretty carelessly too. Now it makes sense why the paint was mostly on the front side of that shield and why there was runs and lots of blue over-spray on the motor mount. At first I thought the previous owner had reached down with a rattle can and 'touched up' that area. Half the oil pump is raw metal and the other half is blue so I didn't know what was going on.

Is there a paint that mimics the color and sheen of the plating they used on the bolts and coil bracket?

Does anyone know what color the throttle return spring bracket is, and the choke thermostat housing? Mine bracket was was a burnt looking flat grey from heat cycles, but I suspect it was engine color. The thermostat housing had no discernible coating on it, it was covered in surface rust

Black, if you want it to look nice for more than a week or so. Otherwise it doesn't matter what you paint it; it's gonna look like fried paint.

Plated.

Thank you. I'd like to keep the original theromostat housing and spring unit because they're in good shape, but the plating is gone, and fake plating paint wont stand the heat (neither will any color of paint for the return spring bracket) so I will go ahead and paint both the thermostat and the spring bracket with the same cast iron hi temp paint that Im using on the exhaust manifold.

Ok getting close here, just have a few more things to touch up:

Do the bolts for the motor mount get paint or plate?

Does the cap for the federal power pump get painted?

How about the aluminum fan spacer? Looks like it had some sort of dark grey originally

Originally it was bright unpolished aluminum-lookin'. It darkens and roughens with age.

just bolted up my manifolds, and realized my dipsticks needed attention.

Was the trans dipstick plated or painted? what color?

Was the oil dipstick plated or painted? what color?

Trans dipstick usually had some sort of coating or plating on the handle section I have seen some years painted but I am not sure if that was factory or not.

Oil dipstick and tube would have been painted engine color for the tube and handle section.

Engine color would make sense. Is it possible they were painted black? Im looking at my 'before' pics of this refurbishment and you can see the tube is engine color, but the handle isnt showing any spec of blue, it looks like it may have been black.
