What application would use 20w20? How bout straight 60-hd? Next question anyone need any? I went to an auction yesterday and came home with LOTS more than I bargained for..... Lots of more conventional weights, lots of type f trans fluid in there, |

There isn't a Slant-6 engine that wants 20W20 or 60-weight. New/current oil is so vastly, completely, enormously superior to old oil that it is not worth using the old stuff even if you get it for $0.00. The same goes for transmission fluid, especially Type-F, which is archaic and quite primitive by every measure (oxidation resistance, sludging resistance, viscosity maintenance and stability, lubricity, frictional maintenance and stability…). If it's old enough, the vintage cans might be of interest on eBay to petroliana collectors. |

There's 5w30, 10w30, 10w40, 20w50 in the mix too. But those are more common, as is the 2 layers of ATF+3 on the bottom of a pallet. (I got 3 pallets thigh high /plus 3/4 of a truck bed load of various oils) I figured some of the more common stuff would be of interest because of being older, with all the talk about zinc levels in current oils and flat tappet cams.... I certainly wasn't wanting I definitely wasn't bargaining for anywhere near that much, but didn't think they'd auction it off "by the pallet" i wound up with 'by the pallet, X3" it was stored off site 1/2 mile away so we didn't get to see what we were bidding on, I'd seen pix of the auction listing but the pix weren't that good, a couple of "side shots" wrapped in shrink wrap and a vague description of what was included. Lots of quaker state, Pennzoil, citgo and more In the beginning of the thread I was mostly asking about the less familiar weights I would up with, And yes it was cheap.... Which was the only reason I couldn't even think of waving a bid on it.... I got a bed load in my truck, we took the tops off each pallet down to where they were all level and even with the top of where the shrink wrap ended, got to back when someone with "forklift access" is around for the rest which means a 1/2 day off work one day later this week |

I think Harley specified 60w in their Aermacchi made Sprints for summer temps and 50w for cooler temps. That being said, I use 15w-40 in mine. Some of the old ironheads and shovel heads may have used 60w as well. |

Ok that helps, I was actually thinking aviation stuff. Though I've heard of Harley wanting 50-wt in some of their older stuff. I think mine wants 20-50. Hafta Check for sure, it's that time of year again. |

Well it's home...... Looks like 1 pallet of type F, (about 35 cases give or take) a whole pallet of quaker 20w20, (35-40 cases) and a pallet of a wide heinz57 mix. Found a couple farmers who said lots of their stuff calls for type F and one at work says one of his old JDs calls for the 20w20.... Gonna have to go thru the heinz57 pallet and see what's there. Add a pickup load of everything mentioned in this post on top of that. Anyone sorta near (or passing thru) Chicago -ish need any? |

So has anyone ever heard of 10w-20w-40 (yeah all 3 stamped on the lid of the same can) There's 1 case of Pennzoil like this in my haul . Ok, how bout 20w-30? (Ive heard of this one but I dunno where it would be used other than a light machining oil... 10w How long has it been since oil was sold in 1 gallon cardboard/metam cans? I have about a 1/2 dozen cans of 10w packaged like that and a dozen or so cans of 20w20 packaged that way. |
