Well I cannot get my instruments lights or gauges to work (63 Valiant).. I removed the pod, cleaned it up and removed/checked l all the bulbs. Cleaned all the pins on the circular connector. Reinstalled the dash pod with new bulbs and still no go. The red light om the pod that is energized when You turn the ignition switch to on, is working. (the only light comes on..) Put in a new headlight switch. Stil nothing. Fuses are ok. The factory wiring diagram is of little help since it involves that printed circuit board and that pin connector, neither of which I'm familiar with. Is there something else I can check? Any help appreciated. |

Check the fuse box and make sure all the fuses are the correct size and not blown. |

My fuse box is pretty shabby and I can't read the lettering,,so I'm not sure what fuse goes to what, or the correct amps. And I can't find it in my manual either.. Do you have a pic of a fuse box for my Valiant? |

Did you clean your firewall bulkhead connector? On the fuse block use a volt meter. Connect to one side of the fuse and try to read battery voltage. If you have voltage on both sides of the fuse, that fuse is good. Check them all with your switch on and you can eliminate the easy stuff first. On the printed circuit board removing the round mating connector (VERY CARFULLY) and re-installing it can clean a dirty contact. Might be hard to get to, yoga helps under the dash. |

Check if your taillights are also dead—they were put on the same circuit as a crude safeguard (driver notices their dashboard lights are dead faster/easier than noticing their tails are dead). |

Dan I always thought this was some kind of standard for this exact reason.

Putting the tails + dash lights on the same circuit was a common practice long before there were any vehicle safety standards. It isn't/never has been required by any safety standard in the U.S. or any other country. |
