Post subject: | 65 Valiant rim question |
I have a 1965 Valiant and would like to get 4 steel rims, 14”. I know it came originally with 13”, but someone has already put on 14” rallye rims on it now, I’m looking to go with an original look, with full hub caps. I “think” the bolt pattern is 5 on 4” but correct me if I’m wrong. The tires on it now, are 225/70/R14 which have lots of life left in them. Is there any particular model of Chrysler product’s that came stock with the sizes I need, so I could then look for some O.E. Rims? Used of course. Or, should I just look at an aftermarket black rim? What concerns me with going this route, is that these modern aftermarket rims my not accept a full wheel cover/hub cap. Thanks |

I have one 14" steel factory rim that came off of my 67 Dart convertible. It is 5 on 4" bolt pattern or "the small bolt pattern" as sometimes called. It is in good shape, no rust pits, was the spare tire since c1992. |

The bolt circle is 5-on-4", yes. The wheels you're asking about came in two widths: 14 × 4½" and 14 × 5½". On the narrower rim, a 195-width tire is pushing/ballooning it; really you'd want to stick to 185, such as these. On the wider rim, you can use a 205/70R14, and there are several solid picks in that size (though it'd be tough to find a whitewall). |

Where are you located? I have a set of stock 14 in wheels, (have to measure the width). If your close enough and you would be willing, we might be able to do a trade. |

FYI: My one rim is 14" x 5 1/2" I removed a 195/75 R14 Goodyear Polysteel Radial. A blast from the past. |

I'm in Ontario, Canada. I found a set of 4 original Chrysler 14" x 5" black steel rims with the 5 bolt/4" pattern. Now the question is, what size tire should I/could I put on these rims? I still want to go with narrow whitewalls. By looking at sites such as Coker Tire, it seems that I should go with a 185/14 radial whitewall. With all of the knowledgeable people on this forum, please send me your thoughts. Thank you. |

Quote: I found a set of 4 original Chrysler 14" x 5" black steel rims with the 5 bolt/4" pattern. Check that width again; is it 4.5" or 5.5"? It'll be stamped on the rim barrel, or you can measure.Quote: I still want to go with narrow whitewalls. By looking at sites such as Coker Tire, it seems that I should go with a 185/14 radial whitewall. That would be an appropriate size for the car and it would work well on either-width wheel. But Coker is a very expensive place to buy tires. Go lookit the ones I linked earlier in this thread.13" wheelcovers won't fit 14" wheels, so you might also need to do some shopping on that front. '63 Plymouth 14" wheelcovers would look sweet on a '65 Valiant, and they don't say "PLYMOUTH" on them, so you'd be safe there. That's these. On the other hand, if you have the small centre caps rather than full wheelcovers, they will fit the 14" wheels. If you paint the wheels body-colour and use trim rings along with the centre caps, that'll look terrific, too. |

Thank you for your reply and the links Dan. I'll check the rim width again and also look at the Hankook tires you linked. |
