I have a '64 Valiant wagon that I converted to big bolt pattern disc brakes from Pirate Jack almost two years ago. Initially had problems w/ disc brake release, replaced MC and it worked for over a year. Recently front right caliper was not releasing. Found torn rubber seal, replaced w/ calipers from 75 Valiant. Release problem resurfaced, so I bought a new MC for 75 Valiant front disc/rear drum NON power brakes. Now I can get some height on the pedal after bleeding the front brakes, but they are still locking up. Any suggestions? I appreciate your time and expertise, Joe |

when you put the disc brakes on did you replace the Brass T on the Drivers Side Frame rail with a proper Disc Drum Combination / proportioning valve? You might have to add an adjustable proportioning valve in the hydraulic circuit as well. It is possible that you have a collapsed / failed brake hose on the front .. Sometimes they fail inside and can be tricky to diagnose, leading to the "magic check valve effect" where the pressure does not bleed off on the front leading to higher pressure in one caliper. Take your front hoses off and see if you can run .035" mig wire or something equivalent through the hose without any hiccups. Greg |

Greg-- Thanks for the reply. I replaced both front hoses, as one was leaking. I used a new disc/drum distribution block--one that mounts under the MC. Looking into shorter banjo bolts. The new ones w/ the calipers might be bottoming out. |

Check the thickness of the copper washers. I have found many times the ones supplied with the caliper/hose are too thin.

I don't know, I've never tried it. I suppose you could try but keep a close eye on it for a while to make sure there are no leaks. What I did was buy a box of assorted copper washers, and use those. https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q= ... assortment
Can I double up on the washers? Thanks. |
