| Post subject: | 'Double' Dutra Duals question |
MY slant has had Dutra duals for two years now. I have plans for MPI and turbo eventually, and see fabrication of all this easier if both sets of cylindars exit sideways, and not down as the stock rear unit does. I purchased a second front set to put on the rear, and am seeing things being really tight around the mini starter. I am wondering if a front unit will fit on the rear, or if the starter motor will prohibit that. Anybody seen this done? I asked Lou Madsen about his 'double Dutra duals', on his '68, but he has an A500 auto in it, which has the starter down lower, so no problem for him. Any help out there? Thanks. |

Doc had a post and a pic a while back I think, the rear dual he said ws a bit tight, and you had to have the mini-starter (probably with a 'sheild' too).... wish I could find that post.... Sounds like you're heading for some fun!!!! Good luck! -D.Idiot |

Thanks DI. This has been a long process, but I think I am getting there. I won;t say finished, cause what would be the fun of that? It's good to see your computer-like mind and encylopedic reference library at work. Where have I been anyway! It sounds like your project is really coming along nicely too. |

Here is the link to how the dual dutras work: http://www.dutra.org/doug/doug-sl6-exha ... -duals.htm It clears the starter but it is close, especially with the old "corporate" unit. The mini starter gives you a little more room. DD |

Thanks Doc. That was what I needed. Do you think there is room to mount a 2.2 turbo directly to the manifold flange on the rear. If so, the plumbing for dual turbos with Dutra dauls should not be too complex. |

Hi Doc, I went back and looked at your web page, and it looks like it would probably be impossible to mount a turbo directly over the starter. Maybe an extention off of the manifold would give me clearance. I will work on that later. Thanks again. BTW, why is the text covered by the pictures? |

You are right about not having much clearance for a rear turbo, using an extension is the way to go. Drop me a PM if you want more info.As for the web page photos, are you viewing using Netscape on a Mac? I have see this happen when viewed with non-windows browers. DD |
