Hey.

I just got this Plymouth Valiant ´75 and it´s my first american car

I have read a lot on this page about the engine but can´t seem to id it.

The carb is a 2bbl Carter 2681 i belive ... (pic.)

The engine is from a Plymouth Volare from 81´, i been told.

The engine sounds very good but the carb is the problem!

The question is would the weber 38/38 be any good for my engine? Have read and lot about the 32/36 is to small for the 225.

Hope you understand it all ;-)

PS. Thanks for this page - is gold !!!

https://picasaweb.google.com/1093386251 ... 3/SlantSix

Hope the link works ...

If you have a pic that would help but i'm fairly certain the carb is a
Carter BBD. If you have problems with it; probably because of the throttle shaft bushings.
I've heard good things about Webers, never used one myself.

Welcome. Regarding the Webers, I have run both the 38 and the 32/36 on my van and I prefer the 32/36 for my intended use. in the past, I have also run the 32/36 on a Volare with good results. Adapting the Weber requires some cost and/or some fabrication though. Good luck with your slant.

Ok sounds good but can the 38 work on my 225? Don´t mind the work fitting the weber but where too buy one that fits? Can this one my car ?

Maybe somebody got a used complete set weber/holley?

Thanks for the welcome ;-)

The 38 will work fine. As I recall, I needed to buy adapters for the manifold, a trans kickdown cable, fabricated a linkage bracket, etc. Here are some links that might be helpful. I've purchased from both.

The 2681 is not the carb model number. Only way to indentify that is by a metal tag.

I doesn't look like a super six carb. I think it is off a 318 V8. The slant units will have a bent PCV tube for the PCV hose. V8's are straight. The flat spot at the top of the choke is thinner looking on a V8 BBD.

Watch the BBD video that is available via this web site.

Should be a forged crank 225.

The V8 BBD should also have a couple holes in the throttle plate that the sl6 BBD don't have. The V8's need more air for idle than the /6. From what I know about this sl6's either run fine or horrible due to these holes.

Valiant 75's carter BBD looks to have the bent PCV nipple, so I think it used to be a super6 carb- before it got hacked. That choke cable setup is just FUGLY! It would have taken alot less work to just fix it properly.

And why is there a vac hose going from the manifold port on #6 intake runner then Tee'ed into the vac advance hose?

That's funny, it don't don;t look hacked, at least you can't see from the complete opposite side of the engine in the pictures.

I wouldn't bet the farm on the holes comment. Where the idle screws are in the base things are different. More restriction on the slants. 2 square holes.

I have no problem with citing a source:
http://www.slantsix.org/articles/supersix/article.htm
I am also running a sl6 BBD over earlier V8 BBD for prescribed reason.
So how about that farm?

Do know anything about the vac hose setup. I got the car one week ago and it does not run quite well. That´s why I want a new carb but maybe there is something else wrong ??
