I went down to US41 tonight to play around a little. The fastest the car had gone before tonight was 16:52@80. I got there at a decent time so I decided to change jets because it had been pretty lean before. I went up to #58's in the front and #60's in the back. This is in a 390 Holley on an Offy intake attached to a stock '80 Volare motor. It also has a Clifford header, 3000 stall converter, 3.91 SG rear, and an MSD6-AL ignition. First pass was a 16:28@80.9, and it progressed to a 16:24@80.5. The humidity was spiking up is why I think it slowed down some on the MPH. Weather for the first pass was 75*, 39% humidity, and 30.30 on the barometer. By the end of the night it was 65*, 75% humidity, and 30.33 on the barometer. If I'm not mistaken, the 16:24 puts me right in there with Tim_K and his "Screamin' Six". |

The last time I had my 1971 Valiant at the track, it was running 16.5's at 84. That is with a stock 2000 stall converter, 3.21 Sure Grip, and 3330 pounds racing weight. If I had your 3000 stall and 3.91's, I'd have been in the 15's easily. The 2000 stall converter really hurt the ET off the line. |

But I have a completely stock long block in the car, no headwork, no cam, no nothin'. That is with a stock 2000 stall converter, 3.21 Sure Grip, and 3330 pounds racing weight. Both you guys keep throwin' around this "stock" word, then go on to mention headers, high-stall converters and low gears (which I guess could've been stock). It's settled, next time I go to the track, I'm takin' Kermit, my '72 Valiant. Kermit IS stock, right down to the cheesy points, 1920 carb and 2.76 gear. Kermit runs like a top. That should be a baseline of sorts. I'm shootin' for high 18's ![]() "DW" |

Try 19.4 with a holly 1920, 2 1/4 single exhaust and 2.76- 7.25 with a petronix setup with a 40 year old 904. |

Wouldn't want ole kermit to croak and leave you having to rent a toyota, maybe kermit would do better if you replaced those points with a matchbook cover ![]() |

Possum, I'm not real sure but 1375 sounds high to me. I thought the pyro should stay around 1200 if everything was good. Might still be a touch lean. ![]() Toss a couple sizes bigger jet in it and see what it does. Might even get that thing into the 7's. ![]() |
