I been having an annoying oil leak that I tracked down to be the rear main seal (weeping slightly) only while running. I initially thought it was the oil pan gasket so I redid that but still was weeping. I believe I installed the rear main seal wrong due to it riding on the knurled part of the crank shaft (see pic). If i flip the seal around the lip of the seal appears to not ride in the knurled part. My question is did i still install it correctly initially or do I have to reverse it from how it is currently installed when i pull the crank (lip riding toward flywheel side). This is a fresh rebuild with less than 800 miles and wasn't leaking except for the last 50 miles roughly.

Besides way too much silicone, something looks odd about that seal. But, the sharp edge of the lip should face the engine side.

This picture shows how the seal is pressurized by crankcase pressure.
It's not a slant, but the seal is installed correctly.
