My 83 D150 /6 tends to flood when starting when it is warm out. The choke stove seems to be in working order but the service manual has no test procedure. Also there is a white wire coming from the housing that is not hooked up. Heater?

I can run a switched wire to the choke housing wire. Any input on checking function? Is this the heater wire?

Picture too big to post.

Yes, that's the choke heater wire, and if it's not hooked up, the choke will stay on too long and the engine will load up (run rich). It's not to be hooked up to an on/off source of 12v; there's a temperature-sensitive controller widget that's meant to modulate power to the choke heater. This system almost kinda worked more or less okeh when everything was brand new and perfect, but not really better than that, and it is not adjustable. Save yourself a giant amount of aggravation; remove the factory choke thermostat assembly entire, wire and all, and put on a № 1234 electric choke kit instead, which is adjustable and will work a lot better.

Read that thread in a search. Don't see a D150 application. Will contact them and find out what they recommend.

Thanks.

It's a № 1234 kit you need, except in the highly unlikely case you have a factory 2-barrel carburetor setup, in which case you need a № 1232.

I could type the info again, a third time, if you think it might help.
