My 1968 225 is at an engine rebuilder in Phoenix.

I purchased a cam, springs, and oversized valves from Oregon Cam.

The rebuilder says I have a choice: either build the head for lead-fee gas or install the oversized valves. No valve guides exist (to his knowledge) that allow for both.

Is the rebuilder correct?

TIA

You might want to shop around for another cylinder head guy.
It's hardened valve seats not guides that are normally installed for lead free gas. These are available for any size valves you could run. Guides are not affected by lead/no lead and are also available as 'blanks' to accommodate any valve stem size.

Pretty much what I said to your post over a FABO.

Perhaps I heard him incorrectly.

Where would I purchase hardened valve seats for the oversize valves?

Any decent machine shop can get guides and seats. If your place can't look for a new place as Charlie said.

Those are universal parts that every valved 4-cycle internal combustion engine has.

They should be able to order those things and install them properly.

They all need to be final sized/reamed for the application anyway so the shop should hand all of that for you and then just have you pay the bill at the end.
