I am sorry for this simple question but I'd like a definitive answer before I try to open my radiator's petcock. I have not drained this radiator before. It's a 1966 Coronet Slant Six with the stock 22" radiator. I just can't see which direction the threads are leaning with my bifocal lenses and OLD eyes! The petcock is more than finger tight and I want to go the right direction to open it before I apply a little more pressure on it. The radiator and petcock are in good looking shape. Thank for the help. Jon |

If you lean over the rad, push the right side arm on the petcock down. |

So, that would be counter-clockwise if I was under the car looking straight at the petcock? Thank you! I need someone who knows. |

Just like loosening a bolt. Note that the threads are LH, so it will actually screw into the radiator even though you are turning it counterclockwise (as viewed from aft of the radiator). Lou |

Thanks folks. I would have guessed LH thread but it's been so long since I've done this I wanted to check. I'm replacing coolant, thermostat, and thermostat housing drilled for secondary temp gauge. |

All went well today draining and filling the cooling system. The petcock just took a bit more finger nudging in the right direction and it worked perfectly. Thanks again. |
