Hello All I just bolted the engine to a stand this afternoon and plan to start cleaning it up tomorrow . Would like some paint that will somewhat mimic factory color and wont object to the heat ... This is a good ole boy fixup ,only trying to please me and preserve it for my helper /son . I have been sandblasting /wirewheeling the frame and using Rust Bullet Black Shell brushed on . It looks better than than it should ! Any tips would sure be appreciated . Unclebear |

Does the 1981 Engine Come in Blue or black?, I cant Remember. I know Lou paints most of his engines black I am sure he has a good recommendation for Black. For Blue you could use something like this: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/en ... plg/de1631 I am not sure if it is the best that is out there, but it will work. |

There were a few traces of blue on the bell housing and engine. When the engine was rebuilt in 1989 the builder used red. |

If you wanted to use red, I have used this before with good results: AutoZone has the best price on this paint. you can get it elsewhere too. It's not the factory MoPar correct red. https://www.autozone.com/paint-and-body ... 550962_0_0 Maybe Dan will chime in with some insights as well. Greg |

The switch from blue to black was around 83. My 83 was black but got painted blue recently with rustoleum spray can. Can't say how it holds up as the engine is still on the stand. Prep work is most important. Get it clean.

I've had excellent results with Rustoleum Engine Enamel. |
