I understand the use and necessity of the brass washers on the ends of the factory cast iron exhaust manifold. But when running steel tube headers or split exhaust manifolds (Hyper Pak) are they still needed? I would think they would be redundant in those cases.
Just looking for additional points of view on this.

I use them on headers because I have them. But I don't think they are necessary, if the headers do not have a common one piece flange.
PS: I tighten the nuts much more than the spec torque. I torque to the German spec "gudentite".

I always use the factory Hardware on everything for the manifolds/headers THey all move around a bit.

You're gonna get me thrown off the Slant 6 forum Greg! :D

This might not be the year for you, it happens to fall on the Saturday of Carlisle. Normally, it isn't the same weekend though. It's not nearly as big as Carlisle, but a fun little show with a good bit of stuff you don't typically see. - The best German show in our general area that I know of.

I don't use them on any headers and have never had problems.
Mine are tighter than Charlies- "Gudentiter"
