when i ride in my wifes 73 Dart swinger, slant 6, it will act gas starved upon re-starts. it only happens when i'm in the car, 6'2 230 pounds. she said its cause i'm to heavy, which got me thinking. is she right? could my extra weight be a pull on a weak fuel pump? |

Not likely. Either it's running the same way and she's not noticing it. Or, it has something to do with a difference in the way you drive. First, What exactly do you mean by "acting gas starved?" Have you tried riding in the car with her driving, to see what she's doing that's different from you? You said it's happening after restarts? The carb's been hot soaking (manifolds hot?) I'm guessing & assuming a lot -- I've seen something like this and it was a result of a worn accelerator pump. (It was probably lean overall too, due to varnish build-up.) My father would drive the car and it would seem fine, because it was being operated in a way that didn't require much input from the accelerator pump. Then the I would drive and the car would starve for fuel because I was more heavy footed and the accelerator pump couldn't move enough fuel. Rebuilding the carb solved the problem. |
