Took a low mileage engine ( Under 5000 miles) apart for a bearing issue. This was about a year and a half ago. Got the crank fixed and I am just reinstalling the original piston & rings with new bearings. Problem is I don't remember which way the rings go. One ring with dot is sqaure. One has inside bevel with dot. Looked at another set of rings and they say the bevel ring is the top ring and bevel faces up. Sqaure ring is 2nd ring and shouldn't matter which way it goes. Can someone refresh my pea brain! Thanks. |

As far as I know any ring that has a dot, the dot goes up. With no dot and bevel would need to check with the ring mfgr. |

Personally, I would never ever install old/used piston rings back into an engine. They broke into a certain position and the bore is likely not perfectly circular anymore, once it is broken in. I would buy new rings and home hone it with a drill and that has worked well every time... My 2 cents. Lou |

You could still use the old rings, and pour "BonAmi" down the crab while running. |
