This is going to be a no-go. That one-year-only Stromberg Model W is a very good carburetor design, but it was only produced in a configuration for a cable-type throttle control. As you can read at the link, there were versions planned for the rotating-rod setup, but they were not put into production. Years ago there was a Holley linkage adapter piece which would attach to the cable-type throttle lever and allow the rod to hook up, but that piece (if you can even find one any more) will not fit on the Stromberg carb. Your options here are to convert to a cable-type setup (needs an appropriate accelerator pedal, throttle cable, bracket, and—if your car has automatic transmission—complete kickdown linkage) or use a carburetor configured for the rod-type accelerator. |

Thank you for the information. My intention was to get another carb and take That piece off the throttle linkage and Attach it to my carb somehow. Is that worth the effort? My Carter is rebuilt, but I don’t love it. |

I did a modification like that on a 500 cfm Holley 2 bbl. It worked fine.

That's an idea, but it's not going to be as easy as you might think. The Stromberg W carburetor's throttle lever is closer to the firewall than that of the Carter BBS, Holley 1920, or Holley 1945, so as soon as you go to mount the Stromberg carb, you'll find your throttle rod smacks into it. Attach the box-shaped piece that holds the rubber bushing which accepts the carb end of the throttle rod, and the smackage will be even larger. If you try to force the rod rearward, you'll bind up the throttle linkage (and screw up its geometry so it wouldn't work correctly even if you were able to unbind it). You can try shortening the rod, but this isn't simple, either; it's not just a straight bar with a 90° bend at the carb end, and you'll run into geometry problems there, too. All of this on top of the need to be extra-super careful and not just throw something together, because throttle linkage failure can easily be life/death on the road. Not saying it can't possibly be done, just that it's not so simple as it might seem. |

Valiente64, If you need a core twisty Rod Style Carb, to cut up etc. It has the bushing as well, PM Me. Best of luck, Greg |
