I switched my '66 to a dual M/C and it is still drum brakes. I used the drum brake M/C and proportioning valve from a drum brake '71 Dart.

hey boys and girls, got a guestion. I was asked by a friend if it is safe to add a dual pot MC without going to front discs and just keeping 9inchers all around. Seems that with an adjustable prop. valve it could be done but would it be advisable or safe, I don't know. Surely someone out there has the answer. |

All A-body cars could have SBP 9" drums all the way to early 1976, so getting a splitter/ prop valve from a 1970-1976 car with drums and getting a manual drum brake master cylinder for a '1974 Plymouth Duster' from your local auto parts store would make a good swap.... -D.Idiot |

Do it for your safety and for those around you. You will have to do some line fabracation but this is no biggie. Go with a adjustable valve as per DI advice, you won't regret it...Dave |

63, get ahold of Greg at Magnum HP... www.magnumHP.com, and you can get the newer style aluminum MC for a great price. I got mine a few weekes ago from him, and it was cheaper than going to the parts store locally. |

63gtcv, useful information for your situation @ these links: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... t=residual http://www.911brakes.com/faqmasters.htm Definitely ditch the single pot MC: they are an accident waiting to happen. 9-inchers are only marginally adequate and should be upgraded if you do performance inhancements to your engine (10-inch drums all around or discs and drums), but the single MC really should go ASAP. You can use a dual pot MC without any proportioning valve if you leave all 4 drums on it. There is no proportioning valve with the single pot system, right? My 75 and 76 Valinats have no proportioning feature built into the brass block, its only purpose is provide a place to "T" all the brake lines from and it provides the swithch for the red dash light. |
