I may be lucky enough to get my hands on a triple DCOE 45 kit, so I'd like to know if anyone else has done the same and their experience with it. I know there's not a ton of benefit to make up for the downsides (I would expect a little more power, since intake velocity seems to mean a lot to slants) but damn if it wouldn't be awesome to see that setup under the hood - I just need to know how drivable it would be, and how often I could expect to re-tune it.

Triples are going to be huge for even the most radical 225 you could build. 40's will provide much better performance and driveability. Which intake do you have or are you planning to get...?

The intake comes with it, it's a whole conversion kit with carbs linkages and all. I believe they can be regulated with different chokes (correct me if I'm wrong), so 45s shouldn't be terrible.

What mods do you have done to the engine? Or is it stock? Truth is there is nothing cooler looking than a set of Webers. I run them on my race car and they are not that hard to adjust. Once I had them set the first time I did not have to do any adjustments to them at all. I did make some adjustments to them seeking more power but they were running perfectly fine before that. On my race car I gained between .4-.6 second in the quarter mile.

If you can get a great deal on the Webers you better buy them. They aren't cheap. Yes you can install smaller chokes and improve the drivability. You can get as small as 32 mm chokes for sure. Maybe smaller. Mine had 36mm and I went to 40mm for the race car.

I have no real experience with running them on a stock or near stock engine. But I bet you could get them to run fine because you have almost infinite adjustability with them. Fuel mileage may not be great though. Let us know what your goals are for your engine.

As Rick said, you can change the chokes for a starting point, but by huge I am meaning all the other secondary components are sized for use in bigger engines. As stated, the chokes are expensive, but that's just the starting point. The emulsion tubes, air and fuel jets are also going to be needing changed to match the needs of a much smaller engine like the 225, which are also expensive times 3. In reality, a single 45 carb could realistically feed your engine. Just move forward with you eyes wide open and expect to spend more money additionally to replace most of the internal components to make it user friendly and compatible for your needs. You'll also need a synchro tool to adjust them and keep them tuned...

I deal with Pierce all the time, great folks.
I run 3 45DCOE on my race car.
They are not simple to understand or tune.
I have 3 different books and still have not found all the information I have looked for.
There is a Facebook group on Weber carbs that has helped me with some issues.

A lot of people ran them in the 60's, not so much anymore.

Here is a link to my Webers on my Colt.

Everyone is different. After starting with some base line jet settings from Seymour's notes, I dropped down a couple sizes on my car since I had a smaller cam and less compression. But after that every jet change for air and fuel did exactly what I thought it should. The only problem I ever had was when I accidently installed the one 40MM choke in backwards. That played havoc with the air mixture and caused a flutter as you can imagine. After that mess up, I don't think I have made a single change in over 2 years, maybe longer. Plus all the jet changes can be done from right up top.

There are some good videos on line about theory of operations.
I'll let you know later this summer how it really runs on the road after I get the 4 speed OD transmission reinstalled. I plan to drive it more on the road than I do now.

The 45s are large but should work OK on a stocker or near stocker. Yes, you will want to run smaller chokes and probably jet down some. You may have to invest some substantial coin in tuning parts since you need 6 of everything.

For years I have wondered about the viability of using a triple DCOE intake as a basis for a MPI system. You can get DCOE based EFI throttle bodies from many questionable sources and the sound of ITBs/triple webers adds a cool factor.

I'm pretty sure Lou is doing something like that right now. I'm sure he will chime in.

Several people have done this on the Slant. Leighton Drake was the first one I saw. TWM TBs on a Clifford 3X2. Greg has a setup in the works. I have a setup that is customized and ready but have not had time to install it onto an EFI-wired+plumbed car.
