Hey everyone, I've just joined this forum as I am currently looking for a slant 6 that is in decent shape. I am in British Columbia, Canada and have a 1987 Dodge Ram B150 camperized Van which I recently purchased last week only to find out the motor was no good. I have considered the idea of a rebuild but it would be much more simple if I could just do an engine swap. I'm not sure if any of you Slant 6 pro's would be able to help me out on this one? I really want to get my van up and running if I can. |

Welcome here. I'm in BC, too, and even here in this climate (relatively easy on old vehicles) the odds of your finding a good Slant-6 engine to swap in are very close to nil. The '87 trucks and vans were the last vehicles to come with Slant-6s, and that was nearly four decades ago. Almost all of them are gone, and almost all of those few that remain are in old/worn condition at best. Searching on www.car-part.com turns up one engine, in an '84 in Duncan, BC. Claimed to have 96k kms on it (who knows?), claimed to be in "A" condition (who knows?), C$600. Expanding the search further afield, there or on www.hollanderparts.com , shows more results. But then you add the cost and hassle of shipping a large, heavy thing a long distance, and you greatly magnify the consequences of "wait and see what condition it's really in". Unless you happen into some unusually good luck and find someone with a recently-built '68-up Slant-6 engine for sale, getting yours rebuilt is likely your only practical path. (I know someone in Seattle who might be able to build you a very good one, but I can't think of anyone in BC) |
