Post subject:  bracket needed for push button trans back up light switch

I am working on my 1964 Valiant 2 dr base with 225 and push button transmission. It was supposed to be an easy 'fix a few things' to get it on the road. Marge and I had several Valiants back in the very early 70's with the slant 6, plus an ex-railroad pickup truck and a 68 Dart. All of them clocked over 200K before we gave them away or the Upstate NY rust won.

While I am waiting for parts I ordered I wanted to tackle something easy: I have the push button transmission. There is no factory or dealer backup light switch or wiring. The wiring is no problem and I do have a NOS backup switch but do not have the bracket to mount it. I thought I would be able to knock out a simple pattern then make a bracket from heavier gauge metal. However, my days of spending a couple hours under the dash are apparently long gone. Under the car and working in the engine compartment are going well but I got stuck under the dash for awhile until I managed to wiggle my way out. Too many old accidents, a little arthritis and all of a sudden I can't move around like I think I can.

Does anyone have bracket they no longer need who is willing to sell it or loan one to me so I can use it for a pattern to make one?

I have the bracket laid out with the holes for the mounting legs and it works if I hold it up to the shifter. I just don't have the hands or eyesight to make the pattern for the 90 degree bend or where the mounting holes should be.

Thanks,

Jim Wilkins in St David, AZ

Wow! I never thought anyone would need/want that little bracket, but I have one in my hands right now. If you PM me your address I will send it to you free of charge. My 63 doesn't have B/U lights and I don't plan to add them.

Cheers - Michael
