Just a shot in the dark before I buy a repro one for $60. I'm never confident in the quality of repro parts. This is for my all-original driver '64 Dart 4-door, which spent most of its life in the garage. My mirror's gone floppy, and it isn't the type you can open up to tighten without breaking the glass. Looking for decent but not-perfect chrome, but no erupting "zits" in the pot metal, with a tight connection to the base, snap-ring glass retainer a plus. If I don't hear from anyone in a few days, I'll just buy the new one, but I figured I'd better check here first. Thanks, – Eric |

No way to fi what you have? I heard someone post about super glue, but that seems temporary at best. |

Yeah, I've heard the Crazy Glue technique, too, but I can't imagine it'd last very long. I'm going to try it, though – nothing to lose. The only way to fix them is to go under the glass and re-peen the cast posts that hold the spring-steel tensioner against the ball. Some mirrors (older, I presume), have the glass retained by a large snap-ring, so you can take out the glass and mess with it, but mine is glued in, and the only way to remove the glass is to break it, which seems counterproductive. Would've been nice if they'd put a tensioning screw in like they did with the interior mirrors, but then I guess that I shouldn't complain about something on a cheap disposable car that lasted over 60 years. Thanks – Eric |
