Post subject:  1984 w250 Trans Kickdown Linkage

This truck had a Slant swapped in and a Holley Sniper TBI installed. I'm converting it to a Super Six setup and need help figuring out the trans kickdown. It has a cable installed as shown in the picture (not hooked up yet). It originally attached to the TBI in a hole on the TBI that is below the throttle plate, so pressing down the throttle would pull the kickdown cable. There is no place on the Carter carb to attach it, and I haven't been able to see how I can use the bracket that bolts to the bottom of the exhaust manifold.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to hook this up. I don't know if the cable is from a Lokar setup. If so, I don't know if I need another part to make it work.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Chuck-

You will need to do two things. (1) fabricate something to hold the kickdown cable stationary, like the throttle cable is held, and (2) fabricate an adapter that will put the attachment point of the kickdown cable below the throttle shaft so the kickdown cable is pulled out when the throttle cable is pulled in.

I am attaching some pictures of how I did it on my 76 D100 when I put a Carter AFB on a Super Six manifold and used a Lokar kickdown cable. I used the factory two barrel throttle bracket with a cruise control accessory clamp to hold the kickdown cable. I then fabricated a flat plate of steel to bolt to the carb that put the mounting point for the kickdown cable below throttle shaft centerline.

Watch your angles for linkage binding. It took me a few hours of various configurations to come up with the current arrangement. I kept having either too much or too little throttle pressure or binding linkage that held the throttle open.

Thanks Reed. I was thinking that I would need a plate of some sort that gives me an attachment point below the throttle plate. Doesn't look too bad. I was hoping there was one available that I could buy, but I can probably manage to make one.

Nice work! My only suggestion is to maybe put a second bolt or screw through the throttle bracket so the lever won't spin if the throttle stud comes loose. Otherwise, great job!
