Unless you are going for a specific look or have specific operating parameters in minf, there are better intakes available for less money than the hyper pak.

Are you on face book?
There is a guy has been selling his collection.
Not cheap.

I am on Facebook. Prices for original Hyper Pak parts, and even the Clifford reproduction parts, are high.

I am looking for a Clifford reproduction intake because I have a very specific application in mind and intend to modify the intake.

Maybe it's just me but that part of your post makes zero sense

Well, I bought one from Clifford when they still sold them, and I think it was $500 or so.

Knowing what I know now, I probably wouldn't pay much more than $300 for one. I don't care too much about casting flaws since my plan would be to run it as a dry intake.

I will take a stab.

"I have a single barrel carb. Looking for hyper to hit rod.."

I believe translates to:

"I have a single barrel carb. Looking for a Hyper Pak to hot rod my car."

If your engine is currently stock and has a single barrel carburetor, jumping straight to a hyper pak is not what you want.

First, get what you have running as good as possible. Thorough tune-up. Check for vacuum leaks. Make sure the vacuum and mechanical advance systems are working corectly in your distributor.

Then start grabbing the low-hanging fruit. Check your timing chain stretch and the accuracy of the timing mark on your vibration damper. Upgrade the diameter of your exhaust to 2 1/2 before the muffler and 2 1/4 after. Free flowing muffler. If you don't have it already, upgrade to some form of electronic ignition. Lash your valves properly. Rebuild the carb. If you have an automatic transmission, make sure the bands are properly adjusted and make sure the transmission kickdown is properly hooked up and adjusted.

Then, and only then, should you start looking to more exotic things like increasing compression, changing the camshaft, and increasing the size of your carburetor. Almost all street driven slant sixes do not need a four barrel carburetor. A two barrel will work just fine.

Reed, I always thought that you want a larger exhaust pipe after the muffler because it creates a low pressure area behind the muffler and helps the exhaust flow. Is that not the case?

That is not the case. A larger pipe after the muffler doesn't (can't) create a low-pressure area. All it does is make obnoxious noise by the megaphone effect.

As the exhaust travels through the system, it loses significant heat. As it loses heat, it takes up a lot less volume. A tailpipe smaller than the headpipe is appropriate; it minimizes obnoxious noise and, by maintaining gas velocity, avoids exhaust "pooling" near the car and making you live with the stink when you're stopped in traffic with the windows down.

This recommendation is too big on the headpipe, unnecessarily big on the tailpipe. Putting a 2-1/2" pipe on a stock exhaust manifold without creating a leak is nigh-on impossible, and the 225 doesn't generate nearly enough CFM to come close to benefitting from a 2-1/2" headpipe. All you do is drop the gas velocity, which is not what's wanted. A 2-1/4" headpipe and 2" tailpipe is quite ample; good recipe here (same recipe works well with dual or single exhaust manifold).

Thanks Dan. I have the "stink when you're stopped in traffic with the windows down" problem. Actually it always stinks with a window down so at this point i probably have an exhaust leak too. I haven't been driving the car since the insurance tripled. Good old California politics.
